History of Presque Isle Downs and Casino

The racetrack and casino were first developed in 2005, by the then owner MTR Gaming Group, who owned the site for the majority of its existence. The racetrack was opened in 2007, two years after construction began, to great fanfare – the track was the first synthetic racetrack longer than 1 mile in the Northeast US, and the first to be constructed from Tapeta, a blend of sand, fibre, rubber and coated in wax.
